I read your comment to Todd, so don't tell people not to tell me how your bf leans.

I went to a really great women's conference today in our stake. One of the workshops I went to was about our responsibility and opportunities in government and to defend the constitution. I can't even tell you everything I learned, but what I want to tell all of you, (especially you Alicia) is to study, learn and pray and they take a stand. Read what the prophets have said and even though they don't tell us how to vote, there is enough guidance there to help us know what is right. In 1998 the prophet told us in a letter over the pulpit that we have a responsibility to be involved in our communities and govenments. They have also told us that the only way we can change the world and be able to teach the gospel throughout the world is to help governments around the world to change and become more free so that the gospel can be preached there. There is no middle of the road when it comes to right and wrong. If you are lukewarm, the Lord will spew you out of his mouth. Another thought, everything that we do requires a choice. People will choose what they will do with their bodies, but that doesn't mean that we condone those choices by making them legal. That tiny baby killed in an abortion had no choice. The woman who has sex made the choice then about that child's life, then to make another choice to kill that child because of her inability to accept responsibility and suffer embarrassment or discomfort is another choice. Somewhere there will be consequences.

I understand the idea behind being an independent in politics, but remember that you do not get to vote in the primary election, thus limiting your voice in the outcome of the election. I learned today that that voice is greater that you may think when you consider that only 60% of eligible Americans are registered and only half of those will vote in a general election. So, that makes your vote so much more important. The man who taught my class is a bishop who is a senior staff member for John Shaddegg. He was recently spotlighted in the Washington Post in an article about juggeling his life with his family life. He was a really wonderful speaker and spiritual man. I was so enlightened today. I am going to get some quotes that he shared and share them with you.

Mom, Alicia being in the middle in the political spectrum doesn't mean she doesn't have an opinion. Independents have opinions, the are different opinions from conservatives or liberals, which people call the right and left, and so if your opinions differ from those they say you're in the middle. It all has to do with where people sat in the Italian parliament back in the day. Alicia has opinions.

I know that she has opinons, but she seemed to be waffling on a couple of things. I also know what it means to be an independent, thank you. But, my point about being registered as one is that you are limiting your voice in the electoral system. If you don't want to vote for someone, you can atleast use that vote to be against the worst of the two candidates who could make it into the general election. Stop making me mad! :)
