I Love Books

I am not so good at interviewing because I'm too honest I think.  They ask me "What three words would you use to describe yourself?" and the first three that come to mind are "Awesome, gorgeous and hilarious."  But I know those aren't really acceptable answers so I have to sit there longer and think of better answers and I don't know why they can't just tell what an awesome worker I am.

Fortunately for me I did really well at my library interview.  Maybe it's because I've never wanted any job more in my life.  Here's why:

  1. I literally live a 2 min (on a slow walking day) walk from the Provo library.  Which hecka beats the 20 min walk at 4am to work.
  2. I LOVE the library.  Seriously the highlights of my childhood summers were going to the library and doing the summer reading program.  And now I just love to go and all these books are free to borrow and use and the movies.  Seriously there's hardly a better place!
  3. I love books and reading.  I love to read everything pretty much.  I'll read the instructions to putting a washer together if that's all that's around.  I crave reading.  So if I get to be putting all the books away then I can make a list of books I notice that seem interesting to me.  Then I can come check them out later.
  4. I like to have things in numerical and alphabetical order.  Also rainbow order.  You'll quickly learn this if you ever play a game like UNO, SkipBo, or Phase Ten with me.  Seriously it just makes things so much easier.
Man oh man, I really want to work at the library.  Sure it's only minimum wage but like my mom always says "It's better than a kick in the head."

No really she does say that to me a lot.  Some people don't understand the phrase but I get you mom.  We cool.

Ok now I'm going to make you another list of books I love.  Oh yeah a two-fer of lists this post.  You should be so Excited!  But dang this is going to be hard for me to only choose some...

  1. The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum- This was my favorite book as a child and it continues to be today.  It's classic and magical and if you haven't read it I highly highly highly recommend it.  In fact I love the whole Oz series by Baum.  Not any of those other stupid stories about Oz that he didn't write, because they just make them less fun and more lame.
  2. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell- I read this my senior year of  high school and wrote a 27 page paper on it for my AP English class.  I love this book (incidentally the movie is my favorite as well).  It's so well written, has such great lessons to learn, the characters are well developed, the story is en-captivating.  Dang it's awesome.
  3. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling- Yes I'm probably one of the biggest Harry Potheads you'll ever meet.  But what can I say these are amazing books!!!!  I love them I grew up with those kids in the book, these are the books of my generation.  Also I love the movies.
  4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (or one of the Bronte sisters I'm pretty sure it's charlotte but I don't feel like looking)- I'm not going to write a blurb about all the books because you seriously don't want to read that do you?  If you wonder why I like a book then you can ask me in the comments.
  5. Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging-  ok I don't know the name of the lady who wrote these and the book sounds like it's something no one should ever read, but I promise you that it's not like that at all.  It's seriously the most hilarious book I've ever read.  And I stayed up all night reading it and laughed so much.
  6. Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Patton
  7. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevens- it's a bit slow at the beginning but if you just imagine the muppets acting it out like from the movie it helps.
  8. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
  9. There's a Monster at the End of This Book- Yeah the little kids book with Grover.  It's a classic
  10. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  11. Huck Finn by Mark  Twain
  12. The Bailey School Kids Series- it's great for kids and just a nice quick read if you don't want to think too much.  How could you go wrong with such great titles as Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots or Cupid Doesn't Flip Hamburgers ?
  13. The Outsiders- so obviously I don't know who wrote all these books but they are awesome
  14. The Traveling Pants Series- Actually I've only read the first three, but that's ok because I heard from other fans that the fourth got really weird and different from the others.  But I love those books
  15. American Girl Series- I loved reading these as a little girl.  Except I only like the originals not the new ones they've come out with now like Josephine and Kit.  I think Felicity was my favorite because I love to learn about the Revolutionary War time period.
I think 15 is enough.  And to be honest those are not even my top 15, that would be impossible for me to do I think.  Also these are just some fiction books.  It would be even harder to do non-fiction because I think I have read way more non-fiction than fiction.  I went through this phase in Jr High where I would check out tons of biographies.  I don't know but it was interesting.  Anyways the first three are my all time fave fiction and the rest are just ones I thought of that I like or loved when I was a child.  After re-reading my list most of these are from my childhood, it must be one of those nostalgic days...

Anyways what are your favorite books?

Oh Man!

Ah so, oh man.

I've been feeling dumb all day because I didn't clarify.

Yesterday in church Shirley gave an awesome lesson in Relief Society based on President Eyring's talk from October Conference.  It is "Trust in the Lord and Go Forth and Do."

It's a really good talk.

And that's why that was kind of on my mind.

Ok Thanks Shirley you be awesome.

Ok bye.

And Randy Said, "Nofing"

That is pronounced Nuffing.  And the title is a line from a hilarious YouTube Video called Kid History Episode 1.  Go watch it.  It's awesome.
There I just put it in the post for your enjoyment.

So I'm not gonna lie this past weekend was not very happy for me.

Except I did get to see a concert in the Tabernacle at Temple Square Friday and the music was amazing and the concert was awesome.

And I had friends come over on Easter and we had a delicious dinner and dyed Easter eggs.  I love Easter.

And I'm glad I'm not an associator (like I hardly ever associate things to events that happen.  Well I associate them but I don't let a song or something be ruined if something undesirable happens).

Here's a list of things I like:
  1. The sound of birds chirping when I leave my house for work in the morning
  2. That I don't need my winter coat for that walk to work in the morning anymore
  3. Pickles-Dill
  4. Ice Cream
  5. Easter ... actually I love Easter it's one of my fave holidays.  I'll talk about that in a bit though
  6. The crispness of the air on a fall morning
  7. The laziness of a summer
  8. my bed
  9. Etc
I am tired of making that list.

Now I will tell you about Easter.  It is awesome.  Not just because it's a holiday where I can dye Easter eggs and impress everyone with my dying skills.  No that is certainly secondary.  I love why we have Easter.  To celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and give thanks for the Atonement.  Because honestly where would we be without those?? We would be hopeless, we'd have to be.  Because of that great sacrifice, we can live with our families forever and have our bodies and it is going to be awesome!

I love Easter.

Also I love prayer.
This weekend after offering a prayer, I just felt so much love come to me from Heavenly Father.  I know He really does care about us all so much and knows us all individually.  We just have to trust in him and do what he asks.  It's like Proverbs 3:5-6.  Because really why would He lead us astray?? He wouldn't of course because He loves us so much and wants us to be happy.  That's why He gives us commandments.  I know that if we keep His commandments we can find eternal happiness, not just that fleeting momentary pleasure we get when we give in sometimes.

Ok Sorry I haven't blogged in awhile...things have just been...different and busy?

Sunday Woot

Today was a good day.  I woke up on the couch because when I came home last night I sat there thinking and then I fell asleep.

Anyways...Sacrament meeting was so good.  The choir performed such beautiful numbers.  Including one that the choir director and his father wrote.  I love hymns because they just let the Spirit be so strong and it's totally awesome.

They announced today that there aren't going to be anymore university stakes or wards...instead the singles wards will all be in one stake and they will all be YSA (Young Single Adult) Stakes.  So the name of the BYU 1st Stake is changing to Provo YSA 1st Stake.  and our ward will no longer be the BYU 51st Ward but the Provo YSA 4th Ward.  It's pretty cool.  I think that this will somehow help to build unity.  That thought just came to me when they announced it so I can't really explain why I think that but I just do.  Like I feel like sometimes people have this stigma about singles wards at universities that they aren't as good as other singles wards or something...see I'm not very good at explaining it.  But if that BYU or USU or whatever isn't attached then it's just like "Oh you belong to that ward."  I don't think that made any sense but I think you can get the idea.  I also heard it's to prevent ward hopping.  But I may not ever know the real reason but that's fine with me.

Relief Society was good.  The lesson was on charity and that was awesome.  I learned so much in that class today.  It was so great.

Hmmm the weather was so nice too.  Not too hot and not too cold but just right and it just puts sunshine in my heart.

And in Mission Prep I got to commit everyone in there to being obedient.  Shirley said I did a good job.  Haha here is what I said

Ahem  "Will you all follow the example of obedient people everywhere and mostly Jesus Christ, and be obedient for the rest of your lives?"

And then I gave them a look from over my glasses that says "You know you should so probably you should do it."

Ok that was my day.

It was awesome.

Love you all.

Cheers Bye.

Oh and there will be a  shake party at my house Tuesday at 8pm so probably y'all should come and get shakes.  Bring things to make shakes or else...

Meet My SIster Saturday

Ugh I hate Alliteration.  But I realized that I lost track of what day it is and I didn't let you guys meet my sister Madalynn.  And she sent me her stuff two weeks ago.  Soooo because I love her soooo much I'm overlooking how much I do not like Alliteration and that it is not Wednesday and letting you meet my sister.

I met Madalynn when she was born.  I was 7, she was 0.  She was a very cute baby.  And toddler.  You know how every kid has one movie they love to watch over and over again all day for a year?  Well Madalynn loved to watch the Lion King.  And she would act out scenes from it when she wasn't watching it.  True story should pounce on us and tackle us to the ground and then choke us and say "So they can hear you."  Crazy the things kids can learn from movies.  Oh and when Madalynn was learning to walk she was a head banger.  She would go up to the back door and look out the window at our dog and start banging her head against the window.  And even sometimes if you were holding her she would try to bang her head on you.  Haha good times.  Oh and Madalynn always helped me when I wanted to make movies.  She and Jacob, the best one being Mad Dad, about a Mad Scientist (Jacob) who's daughter (Madalynn) accidentally drinks his potion and then whatever happens after that.  The best line was "Oh no, Somebody drank my potion."  Haha ok Anyways...Madalynn is going to be 16 this year and that is totally bogus.  I told her to stop growing so we'll see how obedient she is.

Here be Madalynn:

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona. Or I guess Maryvale, but not really.  (no Maddy you are from Phoenix, Maryvale is not a town or city it's an area)
Birthday: October 30, we used to throw Madalynn trick or treat birthday parties where the kids would go around to all the doors in our house and my siblings and I would be creepy people behind the doors to hand out candy.  It was fun
Major: Undecided, but it will be something awesome. (:
Hair: middle length... brown, light brown... bangs. I want to grow it out and dye it darker and stuff. Mostly so I can wear it in a pony tail.

~Favorites~
Color(s): Green and blue, but the light ones that are almost neon, but definitely aren't.
Food: Asian.
Movie: hmmmmmmmm... undecided. But it's hilarious, whatever it is. Maybe The Count of Monte Cristo even, because that movie is intense. OH NO WAIT. Tin Man. All three. Most definitely.  sure but you won't even read the Wizard of Oz...
Book: The Hunger Games, or Lemon Tart.
Band: The Hush Sound. Or Cameleon Circuit.
Sculpture: The Thinking Man. Because he's the only one I can think of. I don't even know if that's what it's called... :/:/
Architecture: San Diego Temple. Saw it on a field trip. AMAZING. (:  Grr everyone gets to go to San Diego but me

Which Ninja Turtle would you be?: None. I'd be April.
What TV character would you like to be?: Amy Pond. Then I'd get to travel around with The Doctor and have red hair. (:  I hope some nerds read my blog so they know what you're talking about...haha
If you could visit any 2 historical dates they would be...:I don't even know! maybe... When the dinosaurs were destroyed. but then you would be destroyed with them...Aaaaaand Something to do with Vincent Van Gogh.  she gets liking his stuff from me because he's my favorite painter.
If you could date any celebrity it would be...: CHARLIE MCDONNELL.

Anything Else??
I love ART. Music, drawing, writing, theatrics, the whole works. I go to dances every Saturday. I don't like it when people touch me,it's a family thing, except maybe my mom but I can touch people. I have a pet chicken named Rose. (:

Ah so now you have met ma petite soeur Madalynn.  Be carefull or her chicken will peck your eyes out.

Summa Time

(apparently this picture is from outdoorafro.com  where black people and nature meet.  Ok...)

Ignore the cheesiness of most of these pictures or how dumb they look and concentrate on what they represent.

They represent what I plan to do with my summer Read, play in water, and camp and hike with friends.  It's going to be epic.

Too bad I already want it to be summer and not be school anymore.

UGH!

Statues Crumble For Me

Why?

I'll tell you why.

I ran another 5k yesterday morning.  Only this time I did it alone and with no music!! (GASP) That's right Cecelia was dead, well she still is because I haven't charged her in a couple weeks.

But despite these obstacles, I did really well.  I finished in 31:20.5.  Which is like 10:05 min/mile.  And I finished 40th overall.  So I feel good about it.  Oh and by the way there was like 200 people running at least so I wasn't last out of 40 people.  Sheesh.

This 5k was really important to me, not that the Rex Lee wasn't, but this one was about committing to Virtue.  In fact it is called the Commit to Virtue 5k.  It's put on by club STOP, or Students That Oppose Pornography.  It is only their second year hosting the 5k so it was cool to be able to participate.

I oppose pornography.  It destroys families, it objectifies the body, and so many other bad things that I don't know how to phrase properly.  Basically pornography is a big problem, and I would like it to go away.  Or at least have more people realize how useless and stupid it is.

Ugh it makes me mad to think about so I'm going to change the subject.

Also yesterday I had a ward activity.  It was carnival style and really fun.  Dayan made balloon hats, Blake and Melinda did face painting, there was dart throwing, and more games.  I only participated in the eating part and the cake walk.  Oh yeah and there was a pie eating contest.

It was gross.  5 boys decided to do this.  4 of them are obviously no good at pie eating contests because they were just like barely eating their pie, but the 5th guy was good just really going to town.  Taking my advice an not breathing (Yeah did you know I've been in two pie eating contests?).  Well at one point one of the 4 looks up and notices his competition so he takes a big mouth full of pie and spits it in the other guys pie dish (the 5th who was winning).  It was disgusting but totally hilarious at the same time.  It was like ew haha ew.

And then I was texting Matthew because I was bored and I said that we should play.  He asked what we should do and I remembered that someone said Sugar Ray (yeah Sugar Ray that 90's band with Mark McGrath) was coming and putting on a free concert at the Riverwoods.  Matthew said that was the last text he expected to get.

So of course we went.

It was fun and really funny.  I don't think Mark McGrath really knew the demographic of his audience because he kept making sex and drinking jokes.  But it was fun to listen to music and hey it was free.  And really, Sugar Ray what are you doing in Provo?

Hahaha

Sleeping Igloos

I feel like sleeping all the time.

More than I usually feel like sleeping all the time.  (Because I think every time is a good time for sleeping).

At first I thought that I was just tired from staying up late and getting up early.  And while this may be attributing to the problem, today the true source of my tiredness has manifested itself in my head.  I am getting sick.  My throat is all scratchy and sore and my head feels like Animal is inside playing away on his drums.  But don't worry, I have water and a great will to ignore this feeling for another two weeks or until it leaves.

Except not yesterday, Yesterday I was so tired.  When I woke up for work I promised myself that if I would get up and run to work then I could take a nap after class.

And boy did I ever take a nap.  At 1:30 I lied down on the couch and set my alarm for 2  "A good half hour nap will be good and then I can go to campus to do my homeworks."

But 2 came and I was still so exhausted I said "Ok an hour is a good nap."  But I didn't reset my alarm which means I didn't wake up until 5:30 when Shirley and Dayan came home.

Very unproductive day if you ask me, because then at 6 we watched Gilmore Girls and at 7 I went upstairs to get ready for bed.

Literally I could sleep for days.  Maybe I need more iron...

Well I read my scriptures and wrote in my journal so I didn't actually go to sleep until 10 so don't judge me too much.  I did the important things.  :)

Also I can cross "Build an Igloo" off my list.  And the world rejoiceth.

Well Matthew says what I did doesn't count, but I told him it was my list and I  say counts what and what doesn't.  I said "If I had time and clothes to go to snow I would build an igloo, but I don't."

Why does he think it doesn't count? you ask

Because it was tiny.  I built it for Eskimo birds that got lost in Utah.

It snowed this last weekend and I thought I had better build an igloo because hopefully this is the last snow we will get.  So walking to the ESC there was a pile of snow so I picked up a handful.  And then Matthew thought I was going to throw it at him but he was wrong.  Because then I put it on the ledge of the planter and started making my baby igloo.

I took a picture but I'm at school so I will post it later.

And if you're wondering where Meet My Friends Wednesday is, ask my little sister Madalynn or Tom because they both have survey's to fill out and send back.

Or you could be featured, just let me know if you would like to be.
Cheers~ Alicia
